On
Friday 10th November, Year 7 took a trip to the Globe Theatre.

Year
7 also visited Unicorn Theatre.

There,
they took part in a workshop.

Year
7 learning that science is fun in the laboratory!

Autumn Term
The new school year began with the exciting addition of a Year
7 class for the first time. We welcomed 13 students and several
new specialist teachers. The Senior Department will receive tuition
in Drama from Mrs. Myrna Delicata, Music from Mr. Rick Jones, Spanish
from Mr. Cabezas and Sport from Mr. Steve McRaye in addition to
the school’s existing specialist staff.
Year 7 joined the Junior School in visiting the
‘Life Bus’ which was parked at the school on Monday
and Tuesday 18th and 19th September. This is part of a PSHCE programme
of health education operating in Bromley.
Saturday 23rd September and Wednesday 27th September were this
term’s Open Mornings for prospective parents and pupils to
see around the school and meet some of our current staff and pupils.
Year 7 students performed wonderfully as guides for the tours, despite
only having been at the school for a few weeks. There was a large
attendance at the school’s Harvest Festival on Monday 2nd
October at St. John’s Church; we had problems finding a seat
for everyone! The children sang songs and hymns, recited poems and
read prayers they had composed specially on the theme of harvest.
Diwali was marked in school on Friday 20th October with a special
assembly led by Year 7. Children of all ages dressed in colourful,
traditional Indian costume and performed dances for the rest of
the school. Year 7 spoke about this important festival for Hindus
and Sikhs.
On Friday 10th November Year 7 went on a Speech and Drama outing
to the Unicorn and Globe Theatres in London. They saw a play about
Leonardo da Vinci at the Unicorn, titled “Leonardo”
and produced by CTC theatre, which showed a celebration of his technology
and invention. This was followed by a discussion with the actors
supported by illustrations, annotated drawings and pictures. They
then went on to the Globe Theatre where they had a tour and participated
in a workshop based on Macbeth.
The school was well-represented on Saturday 18th November at the
Beckenham Festival of Music and Drama held at Sydenham High School
for Girls. Year 7 performed admirably in the choral speaking class
for their age group and were delighted to win their first trophy,
the Maurice Denham Cup.
Year 7 had their Christmas “treat” on Monday 11th December
and were lucky enough to be taken to London for lunch at Thai Spice
in Waterloo and then a visit to the BFI/IMAX to see ‘Happy
Feet’.
Term ended on Friday 15th December following the annual Carol Service
at St. John’s Church. The church was packed with pupils, families
and friends who enjoyed the school’s musicians, singers and
speakers as well as a traditional nativity tableau.
Spring Term
We welcomed a new student into the class this term, bringing the
student total to 14. There was also a new member of staff, Miss
Elizabeth Forrai who took some of the students for extension work
in certain subjects. Mrs. Chris Shaw joined the school later in
the term to take over this role from Miss Forrai.
On Tuesday 6th February Year 7 had a talk from School Liaison Officer
PC Andy Clarke on ‘Bullying’ as part of their PSHCE
studies. The whole year visited Bromley Field Studies Centre at
Scadbury Park in Orpington on Friday 23rd February to study woodlands
with the help of Mrs. Mohan, Mrs. Daniels and the staff from the
centre.
Saturday 3rd March was the date of an Open Morning for prospective
pupils and many of the Year 7 Students acted as guides for visitors
to the school. This is less harrowing than the September Open Morning
as they do at least know their way around the school now. There
was considerable interest in the school at the following Open Morning
on Wednesday 7th March by prospective Year 7 students for next September.
The school’s annual Easter Service was held at St. John’s
Church on the morning of Friday 30th March with the whole school
participating. We were also joined by families and friends for the
service and coffee and hot cross buns afterwards in school.
Summer Term
The students are looking forward to a busy summer term, including
a week at an activity centre in June. This term they can make full
use of our beautiful grounds at break times, in lessons and after-school
clubs.
On Wednesday 23rd May the school held its first Open Morning of
the Summer Term giving prospective parents and students the opportunity
to see the school on a working day. Year 7 pupils helped to show
visitors around the school. Current parents were able to meet their
children’s teachers at the Parents Evening later the same
day.
Year 7 participated in the school football tournament on 25th May
along with Years 5and 6 in mixed age group teams to even up the
odds. The ‘professional’ footballers were surprised
at the talents shown by some of their less football-obsessed classmates
when they were given a chance!
The week beginning on Monday 4th June saw Year 7 enjoying an activity
holiday at the PGL centre at Marchants Hill in Hindhead, Surrey.
The weather was kinder than it had been to Years 5 and 6 on their
trip and students experienced a wide variety of activities. The
centre attractions included abseiling, climbing, archery, rifle
shooting, orienteering and a giant swing.
Wednesday 13th June was the second Open Morning of the term for
prospective pupils and their parents to have a look at the school
on a working day. Monday 2nd July was the start of exam week for
Year 7.
Students had their annual presentations of awards on Thursday 12th
July. The new intake of students for September came into school
for an Induction Day on Wednesday 18th July. This was a chance for
them to meet the teachers and begin to find their way around the
school and grounds.
