THE SETTING
To stroll about our grounds is to touch history. The proud manor house that provides most of our classrooms was already old when Columbus set sail for the New World, when Shakespeare breathed life into Hamlet and Othello and Macbeth, when the first shots rang out at Concord and at Waterloo.

The ancestral home of the Heydon and Boleyn families since the 15th Century, Wickham Court was the backdrop as King Henry VIII proposed to the beautiful Anne Boleyn, mother of Elizabeth I. In the intervening five centuries, it has been the setting for many historic events, a place
dedicated to human aspiration of the highest order.

This tradition, this sense of place, continues today through our school at Wickham Court. The sounds and sights of children learning and playing - this, indeed, is history. In its way it is every bit as important as the most storied meeting among statesmen or the most lavish stately dinner.
Today, our school provides a wonderful environment for learning. In our art and music facilities you will see places that stimulate our children's aesthetic senses. You may even get the chance to see our young
thespians practising their skills in our drama hall. And you will note that our library holdings and our computers not only provide valuable and practical learning tools but also open many doors and windows to the wonder that is education.

There is, of course, more to education than books and buildings and bricks and mortar. At Wickham Court, we believe that learning should go beyond the formal classroom, that what a child learns in sport and in games complements the purely academic. Thus, we take great pride in the athletic facilities, and we value the sound of our children's laughter as they run about our five acres of gardens and stately lawns.

Our school reflects the sense of tradition and timelessness associated
with education itself. But it also profits from the best of modern texts and
technology. Most importantly, it profits from the life and the energy that our children bring with them.

When you come for a visit, we think you will see that Wickham Court is as dynamic and exciting as education itself.
