Year 5 and Mrs Power

Year 5 have moving at the speed of light towards an understanding of the size, scope, and distances between the planets and stars, and understanding why we need to measure distances in "lightyears". We took our solar system models down to Wickham Court's capacious gardens, and with the help of the Science Museum guide, Sam carefully paced out the relative distances between the inner planets and we held up our planets at the appropriate points. Distances between Mars, Jupiter and Saturn were doable - but the pupils holding Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto were up against a brick wall! We worked out that we would have to continue all the way to West Wickham to place the outer planets, and as far as Dubai to place the nearest star (Perhaps Rania can take it on her holidays)...
