The year 5 students are learning about traditional Folk Art this term and with Easter coming up, we thought we would make a decorative wooden chicken. They have all been working very hard sanding and getting their own personal mark on these "not quite ready“ decorative birds. Learning about simple Folk Art has been interesting for the children as they were not quite sure what exactly they were for. In the olden days, poor people all over Europe wanted to decorate their humble cottages with as many small wooden objects as possible, cabinets, doors, tables and chairs were painted with amazing patterns.
This became known as “Folk Art" and today many of these pieces, purely used for decorationhave a place in modern homes. This is a lovely art object they have worked hard on and will treasure for many years.Previous
